David was born in Latskova in 1826. According
to research conducted by John Drayman, he may have been
a horse rancher with his brother Samuel. But according to
research conducted by Judith Diamond, he was an innkeeper in Auce,
Latvia. Whatever his profession, he died in Latskova in either
1902 or 1904.
David had at least two, and possibly three wives.
The first marriage, to Hanna, produced one child, a son named Simon.
The circumstances surrounding his second marriage are a bit more confusing. The second woman
he married, presumably as a widower, was known as either
Rivka Hirshfield
or Rebekka Neumann. It is possible, but not likely, that Rivka and Rebekka are
actually different people. If so, David was likely married
three times.
In any case, it is David's second marriage that is
of relevance to the Nemenoff line. That marriage begat a
daughter Pesche, who married
Hirsh Zvi Glick, a yeshiva
teacher, and bore two sons and two daughters. One of those
daughters, Rachel, emigrated to
Montreal and then Chicago. She met her husband
Ben Nemenoff enroute, and
they
had seven children. Ben and Rachel's youngest son was
likely named after David.
